The lobby exhibition has begun!

We had our work on display in a hotel lobby.

The life-sized Japanese wolf was, without a doubt, the biggest hit!

A little girl—around five years old—

petted it, saying, "It feels so nice~,"

and then identified the figures:

"This one is Daddy."

Pointing to the little wolf cub, she said,

"This is [her one-year-old baby brother, who was being held by their dad]...

and this one is [me]!"

Her dad asked, "And where’s Mommy?"

The girl pointed to a Japanese wolf dressed in a kimono and declared:

"That one! That’s Mommy when she’s angry!"

Needless to say, my husband—who witnessed the whole thing—

was completely charmed... *tee-hee*...

Since leaving the group after a huge falling-out with the founder's wife,

this is the second time I’ve helped out with an opening concert.

My friend Enishi-san performed a Tsugaru-jamisen set—singing while playing—

and delighted the capacity crowd.

A big thank you to Mikiti-san, the owner of Cafe-dokoro Suzuki,

for rushing over and really livening up the atmosphere.

And to Mr. Okamoto, the former representative who invited me:

thank you for all your hard work over the years.

And the concert itself—

thank you for such a wonderful time.

I visited the venue the day before.

Afterward, enishi-san and the two of us—my spouse and I—went for a walk around town.

I had the chance to try out some instruments at the event.

This photo was taken by enishi-san.

My First Solo Exhibition

Holding my first-ever solo exhibition.

I handled the setup by myself today.

I climbed up a stepladder to mount spotlights onto the ceiling rails.

As for the hanging wires—

I found myself climbing up and down, up and down that tall ladder over and over again.

I borrowed display cases,

arranged my artworks and reference books,

and put up explanatory materials.

Since it was raining, I didn't use cardboard boxes;

instead, I stuffed the pieces into large plastic bags

and made two trips in my car to transport them.

When I counted them up, I found I only had 80 items—

a mix of sculptures, masks, and clay whistles.

But since the theme is the "Night Parade of One Hundred Demons" (Hyakki Yagyō),

I really wanted to display 100 pieces.

I was 20 short.

I rushed back home to search for more

and added some small masks and clay whistles to the mix.

I think I have 100 now.

The count seems to change every time I check.

To everyone coming to see the show: please let me know if I’m still short.

From October 1 to October 31, 2026, the Hamamatsu City Hosoe Library will host an exhibition titled "Oku-Hamanako Hyakki Yagyō" (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons of Oku-Hamanako), featuring original papier-mâché figures, clay masks, clay whistles, books, reference materials, and more. Admission is free, and no items are for sale. When you visit, try counting the masks, sculptures, and clay whistles to see if there are really one hundred of them. Every time you count, the number... ch... a... n... g... e... s...

I placed a mat under the book. I made it from a kimono obi.

The works for the exhibition—masks, sculptures,

and clay whistles—total over a hundred pieces.

And they are all piled up

in my home—two six-tatami-mat rooms...

I mean, if an earthquake hits, they’ll come crashing down, right?

And if I turn around, I’ll lock eyes with a vengeful spirit, won't I?

Once the exhibition is over,

they’re all coming back here... aren't they?

I went looking for kimonos and obi sashes for Princess Nami's Japanese-style outfits.

I found a bulk lot for sale on Yahoo! Auctions

and ended up buying a whole bunch...

Since I heard you can repurpose kimonos and obi into other items,

I even bought a book on the subject.

Today, I tried placing a mat I made from an obi

underneath the publication.

...It looks pretty good, don't you think?

Yay!
