人生初の個展開催。
今日は1人セッティングでした。
脚立に乗って、天井レールにスポットライト設置。
ワイヤーも、高い脚立に何度も
登ったり下りたり登ったり下りたり。
ショーケースもお借りして、
作品や参考図書を並べ、
資料も張り出します。
雨なので、箱を使わず
大きなビニール袋に作品を詰め込んで、
自家用車で2回運びました。
数えてみたら、立体とお面と土笛で
80しかありません。
百鬼夜行だから、100個は並べたい。
あと20個足りない。
慌てて自宅に戻り、探します。
小さいお面と土笛を追加しました。
多分、100あると思います。
数えるたびに、数が変わる。
ご観覧の皆さん、足りなかったら教えてください。
Holding my first-ever solo exhibition.
I handled the setup by myself today.
I climbed up a stepladder to mount spotlights onto the ceiling rails.
As for the hanging wires—
I found myself climbing up and down, up and down that tall ladder over and over again.
I borrowed display cases,
arranged my artworks and reference books,
and put up explanatory materials.
Since it was raining, I didn't use cardboard boxes;
instead, I stuffed the pieces into large plastic bags
and made two trips in my car to transport them.
When I counted them up, I found I only had 80 items—
a mix of sculptures, masks, and clay whistles.
But since the theme is the "Night Parade of One Hundred Demons" (Hyakki Yagyō),
I really wanted to display 100 pieces.
I was 20 short.
I rushed back home to search for more
and added some small masks and clay whistles to the mix.
I think I have 100 now.
The count seems to change every time I check.

From October 1 to October 31, 2026, the Hamamatsu City Hosoe Library will host an exhibition titled "Oku-Hamanako Hyakki Yagyō" (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons of Oku-Hamanako), featuring original papier-mâché figures, clay masks, clay whistles, books, reference materials, and more. Admission is free, and no items are for sale. When you visit, try counting the masks, sculptures, and clay whistles to see if there are really one hundred of them.
